Sandy Mitchell heads to Road America With Black Bull Whisky & Lamborghini fresh from 24-Hrs win

August 2, 2019

In less than a week after claiming the biggest win of his racing career in his Black Bull Whisky-backed Lamborghini, Scots endurance racer Sandy returns to action this weekend (Aug 3-4) in the USA.

The 19-year-old from Forfar, fresh from winning the highly competitive Silver Cup class in the Spa 24-Hours, the Blue Riband event of the Blancpain GT Series, tackles the latest double-header in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North American Championship.

Straight from having raced at one of Europe’s most iconic tracks at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, Sandy now faces his first test on one of the most famous tracks Stateside, Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. The four-mile permanent road course poses a fresh challenge for the talented young Scot, who bagged back-to-back podiums with his team-mate, Andrea Amici, last time out in the US double-header at Watkins Glen. But in the wake of his stunning victory in the Spa24H, Sandy is excited by the new challenge.

“I’m really looking forward to racing on the iconic Road America circuit,” Black Bull-backed Sandy, who will again drive the No. 1 Prestige Performance Lamborghini Huracán prepared by Wayne Taylor Racing in the two 50-minute races, said. “It will be my first time at the track, but I’ve completed a lot of laps on the SIM at Base Performance Simulators. Sure it will be a tough test and different actually being back behind the wheel of the real Lamborghini, but at least I’ll know where I’m going,” he smiled.

Sandy, part of the Lamborghini Squadra Corse GT3 Junior Program and a member of the prestigious British Racing Drivers’ Club Rising Star scheme, admitted the significance of his win at Spa was only now sinking in. “It was a tough test, not just in terms of the 24-hours, but also because of the atrocious wet conditions and the intense competition,” he explained. “To take a victory in any race is an achievement, but to win one of the toughest 24-hour races in the world was something very special. Hopefully we can finish on the top step of the podium again this weekend.”
