Kartmasters GP at PFI - August 4th 2013

24 August 2013

Testing went very well on the Thursday in the hot conditions and Sandy’s pace was very good. Qualifying on Friday morning couldn’t have been better with Sandy setting the fastest time overall giving him pole for his two heats. Two strong 4th place positions in both heats rounded off an excellent day.

Qualifying on Saturday was more difficult but still resulted in an excellent 5th quickest time overall giving Sandy a starting position of P4 on the grid for both heats, these would prove to be very tough with a 9th place finish in heat 1 and an excellent 5th place finish in the second heat.

With Sandy having four good consistent heat finishes this gave Sandy a P4 start position for Sunday’s pre-final. After being pushed wide at the start over the kerb on turn one Sandy lost a number of positions and also struggling for pace off of the hairpins he eventually finished a disappointing 11th place. This gave starting position P11 on the grid for the grand final and after a decent start Sandy found himself in 8th position but was still struggling off of the hairpins resulting in a hard fought battle for positions. Several karts made contact during the race with one eventually hitting Sandy from behind bending his bumper hard into his rear right tyre, with smoke streaming from his kart Sandy was forced to park up on the grass and retiring with 4 laps still to go.

Sandy “...still lots of positives to take away with us this week end after setting fantastic qualifying times on both Friday and Saturday and strong finishes over the heats. Also had a bit of good luck at the prize draw at the driver’s lunch time parade winning a free entry into next year’s Super One!!

Final was really tough though! Afterwards we found out that the rear bearing housing had given up resulting in the poor exit speed off the hairpins for me. Roll on the next race!”
