Great Super One points haul for Sandy

29 April 2014

(Rowrah: 27 April 2014)

Sandy had a great start to his Super One Rotax British Championship campaign at Rowrah in Cumbria, qualifying pole in group and 5th overall in the Junior Rotax Max class of fifty karters.

Heat 1
Sandy got off the line well when the red lights went to green for the newly introduced standing starts he quickly moved into 2nd before dropping to 3rd after a couple of laps. During some hard close racing and having dropped back to 5th for a time Sandy made two great passes to eventually finish in 3rd setting the fastest lap of the race.

Heat 2
Another good start would see Sandy have a good strong heat but having been stuck behind a kart that persisted on blocking from the early part of the race it got very crowded in the closing stages of the race dropping Sandy to a 6th place finish.

Final 1
Sandy started from P6 on the grid and with a good start he quickly moved into 5th and with some early moves slotted into 2nd sticking with the leader until making his move for the lead 3 laps from the finish. Sandy held the lead for a time before being passed again giving him a well deserved 2nd place finish. This was an excellent result.

Final 2
Sandy started from P2 this time but his start didn’t go so well and he dropped to 4th before regaining 3rd again at the first hairpin, two karts managed to pass Sandy and with being run wide he lost time as his tyres collected the dust. This final quite simply, just did not run as well as Final One and having been pushed onto the grass at the bottom of the fast downhill section in the later stages it was a real battle to hold onto his 9th place finish, however Sandy did set the fastest lap of this final with a time of 46.99 seconds

Sandy: “This is a great way to start the Super One Championship, I had good pace all weekend having taken pole in my qualifying group and going onto have the fastest lap in one of my heats and in Final two. To come away from the first round with a big haul of Championship points and to be sitting in 5th place with only a few point separating the top five is really good. Big thanks to everyone at RL Racing Dept, Cream Engines, YRDA and my sponsors SGM, Smartcomm, Tunnocks and Stirfresh.”
